Broke just before 3 years old
AllyCA
10/7/2019
The microwave worked well for almost three years (similar to another reviewer), however recently part of the clock display stopped working - which was basically cosmetic. However last week the keypad stopped working, except for the START/Add 30 sec button. I called customer service and they said that since there isn't a known manufacturing issue they cannot assist with the problem. So we must purchase a new microwave. Our first KitchenAid microwave lasted for 16 years...under three years seems far too short. We will buy a different brand to replace this one even though it will not match our other appliances.

I bought this a few years ago, and right after the warranty was up, numbers started going out on the clock. We lived with it since it was an expensive microwave, but now the 3 key isn't working. I tried to order a replacement part to fix it myself, but the replacement part I need is not for sale. I was told I would need to schedule a repair and pay someone to fix it for me or buy a new microwave. Regret this purchase so much.

Control panel stated failing after only one year!
DTS1
7/10/2019
This microwave was purchased in 2017 for a renovated business space. After just one year, the LED readout began to fail. To just have someone come look at the unit, it would cost $250.00. Because of this, since the microwave otherwise worked, we decided we could live with the faulty LED display.
However, after two years and two months of use, the start function on the keypad stopped working. We believe the microwave still works, but the keypad is obviously defective.
After reading the less-than stellar reviews of this item, some with the very same issue, I saw that folks were directed to an 800 number to voice their concern. However, when calling this number, the options given do not include speaking to anyone in customer service.
Avoid at all costs. In my experience, most KitchenAid products do not have these sorts of issues.

I bought this KitchenAid microwave oven 3 years ago and had it installed as a replacement for a previous KitchenAid unit that lasted over 10 years. With installation, this unit cost me $800+ and I was ok with that since I thought I was buying a well designed and reliable unit. Heaven only knows what it's going to cost me to have this repaired. That cost will probably drive me to buy new and look at off-shore models with much better reliability. Initial failure was in the 7-segment clock display which I could live with for a while but, 3 days later, it stopped working all together !! I remember the days when KitchenAid was regarded as a 'high-end' product. WHAT HAPPENED to the real KitchenAid?

In 2017 I was doing kitchen renovation with all new KitchenAid appliances including this hunk of junk. Last week, it stopped working. I've never had a microwave stop running. They usually last forever. Poorly made. I recommend that you buy a cheaper brand, get. 5 year warranty, and it's still a lot less than this one. That's what I just did. Anyways, don't get this microwave!

After 22 months, the control panel on this microwave started to fail. At first, the number "3" button did not function. The bigger problem is now that the "Start" button does not function. As a result, there is no way to start the machine. We are bummed.

After only owning this microwave for 1yr/6mo, the pixels on the control panel started to disappear. I called KA (Whirlpool) for a replacement part and to my surprise the lady told me that no parts are available for this unit! She further mentioned that this particular oven was designed to not have replacement parts other than the glass tray. So now I own a fairly new $600 boat anchor! I asked if there was anything she could do for me. She said "no!" This is the last time I will buy anything KITCHENAID ot WHIRLPOOL.

Stopped working out of the blue in just 3 yrs. Called Whirlpool/Kitchenside, and they said the magnetron was broken and it could not be fixed- essentially too bad - so sad! This microwave was installed by my builder in a brand new high-end house! Could not believe it! Paid a fortune for it and it lasted 3 years. Terrible. Don't buy it!

Microwave is RUSTING inside & Digital display prob
TPave
4/30/2019
Our microwave is a little over 2 years old and has started rusting from the inside. The interior must have not been sealed properly, and what I thought was a stubborn stain, was actually a HOLE and rust forming on the interior of the microwave. It is NOT covered under warranty. Apparently, this is not defective. And, to top it off, a portion of our digital display has gone out. In new house it is disappointing to have to replace the built-in microwave SO SOON.

I bought all Kitchen Aid appliances for our new house finished in 2017. After 1 yr this microwave started having buttons stop working, then it would work fine for a couple of months... Then back to the same thing... buttons not working and sections of the clock display not working. Now it won't work at all. Dealer we bought from sent a technician and he said the control board needed to be replaced, but the part is not offered by Kitchen Aid!!! What?! Thought I was buying a quality product for $700 with trim kit! Should have bought the $300 one that would've lasted 15 years!!!

Magnetron broken after a 2.5 years??
JavierN
4/15/2019
I didn't know that a broken Microware was possible. They are a mature product on almost every brand, simple and reliable piece of equipment
Well, not on this KitchenAid $600 appliance.
We bought this brand new house 2 years ago and came with this model installed. Yesterday we used as usual in the afternoon, but a night clock was off. Taking a close look lights didn't switch on when the door opened, and a noise was caming from inside. Unplugged because right side was very hot (with no heating job workig in). Thanks God I did it and didn't went to sleep with that connected. Magnetron was in short and probably a fire were about to spark!!

Very disappointed on this microwave (came with house..builder choice), same issue twice.... Have to replace the whole microwave first time and its same again now. Called the customer care and they said we have to replace the whole microwave again and this microwave has only 1 year warranty.
Initially it starts with microwave start rotating when you just open the door (without clicking start button) - you are expose to EM waves and later it stopped working completely.
First time it failed within a year after we moved to the house and after it replaced, it failed again in 3 years. BAD product !!

Well like most of the one star reviews I'm reading on here I'm in the same boat. Our house was built in 2016 we moved in Dec 30 2016 and this microwave was an upgrade so I purchased it. BIG MISTAKE! I like Others on here have the trim kit as it's in a kitchen island. It no longer heats and it's not even 3 years old!! I called Customer service and was told that my $569 microwave only has a one year warranty and that they would do nothing other than offer some service providers for me to choose from and of course pay a few hundred dollars to. Yeah no thanks I'm not paying to fix a piece of garbage that can't even last three years. Please do not buy this expensive over priced dumpster brick. Come on kitchen aid you are supposed to be high end and good quality. I guess The next thing that will break will be my kitchen aid cook top followed by my kitchen aid dishwasher. Hopefully my kitchen aid hand crank can opener doesn't fail me too! Oh and kitchen aid feel free to email me as your customer service was about as good as this microwave now heats.

Internal sparks when running

We bought this in 2013. It has had an intermittent sparking issue since then. I used to think it was with certain glass containers but it doesn't seem to matter. This morning it was sparking with a ceramic cup and butter under 30 seconds. Is this a fire safety hazard? Should we stop using it?

We bought this microwave barely two years ago when we installed a whole new kitchen. The microwave was pretty great at first but not too long ago it started losing the lights in the timer countdown so now everything looks distorted when you are watching the microwave count down as half the lights are out. I replaced a over 5 year old $100 microwave with this new KitchenAid $600 microwave and the five year old one had no issues and was way way cheaper I just wanted an upgrade for the new kitchen and it's already failing after barely two years . Super disappointing. :(

We bought a newly built home, which had this microwave installed. We bought the home in February 2016. It has started not cooking the food once a time has been entered and the start button has been pushed. Sometimes when you close the door the light and fan turn on by themselves. Sometimes when you enter your time and press start it will begin to cook and turn off. This is the second Kitchenaid appliance we are having issues with. Our dishwasher, also installed in this new home, mildews our dishes and cups before the load is full enough to run. We were told by Kitchenaid this is normal due to the tight seal. Never again will my husband and I use Kitchenaid appliances!!!

I bought this unit 3.5 years ago. It worked fine until now. Shut door and it starrs running with no timer setting. I guess it would run for eternity if I didn't stop it. For over $500, you'd think it would last more than 3 years. Read the reviews. How does KA expect to sell even one more of these? Now I have to find a different brand that will fit the cabinet cutout; geez... huge disappointment! I must admit, KAid does respond to the negative reviews. That should keep them busy.

My microwave was installed in 2014 by builder. I rarely use it, average 10 minutes per day. I moved in the house on Jan 2015, I found sometimes this microwave automatically turns on by itself, sometimes it also turns on automatically when close the door. It died today, the control panel is dark, nothing display on screen. I think the control board has damaged. I found the reviews said that Kitchenaid there are not parts for this model. Is it a good choice to buy another brand for replacement?

Microwave continues to run when off
Cicifromthebay
12/23/2018
We bought all kitchen aid applicances when we remodeled our kitchen. The kitchen stopped working properly. When it's done microwaving, we open the door, but the microwave continues to run. What on earth. We don't know if we're being exposed to radiation with an open microwave that keeps running? I've been looking up how to troubleshoot this and replace what has failed, but the solution is to take the unit out and take it to get repaired. So disappointing. Will likely just replace the unit with a brand/unit that's reliable.

Decked out my kitchen in all KitchenAid appliances, including this unit. It is a bit bulky, but aesthetically pleasing. Unfortunately just a little over a year after I bought this unit, LEDs on the digital clock/timer blew. Convienantly for KitchenAid, this was just outside the manufacturer's warranty. It was explained to me KitchenAid would not send parts, or replace the unit. My only recourse was to throw out the unit and buy another one for retail.
Maybe I was naive to expect more from a company who prides itself on quality. This $500 heat box could easily be replaced with a Wal-Mart microwave. Don't waste your money.
Regards,
MC

Rust in microwave in less than 4 years !?
mjsmms
12/14/2018
We remodeled our entire kitchen with KitchenAid appliances less than 4 years ago. This microwave already has rust inside of it. The rust is forming at the seams and corners in addition to the round protrusions in the top. Called Support. That went no where. As a point of reference, before we remodeled our kitchen, the old microwave that came with the house was a Roper. My wife couldn't wait for it to fail so that she could buy new appliances. It never failed (or showed any rust like this has) in the 19 years that it was in the house. Why does this have rust at only 3.5 years and why won't KitchenAid (Whirlpool) do anything about it?

I purchased thousands of dollars of Kitchenaid appliances less than 2 years ago one of which was this particular model- HUGE mistake
The microwave is not something I use often (this particular one less than 50 times I'd estimate) and when I phoned for service, not only was I charged $150 but when the tech arrived he informed me that Kitchenaid does not make replacement parts for this model.
What irritates me most is as I read these reviews this has been the case for many years!!
Why on earth do you sell a product for over $500 that knowingly cannot be repaired ?
At a minimum the consumer should be made aware of this fact so that they can make purchases accordingly? I would never have purchased this model had I known this up front
That being said, even though ALL my kitchen is "Kitchenaid " you've just lost this customer!

Very poor quality. This appliance was installed brand new with the purchase of a new construction home and started to have faulty door and electronic panel within a year, inconveniently right after the mfg warranty expires. Now the LED panel and controls don't work. I am unsatisfied with the fact that there is no remedy other than me buying a new microwave per a conversation with customer service. There should be some sort of remedy that doesn't require me buying a new microwave especially seeing how this appliance is less than a year an a half old.

This microwave came with our new home built by "Drees Custom Homes" (in TEXAS) and installed by Professionals in November 2016. All our appliances are Kitchenaid. So, this is less than 2 years today and the microwave stops working. It has power and it runs when you press the start button but it's not warming the food anymore. it's just stopped working in less than two years. We called Kitchenaid Customer Service and obviously, the warranty is only one year so basically we spent $600 for nothing.
If you want to throw $600, or play a lottery with it then go ahead and buy. it.
We are going to shop for a less expensive microwave, for another brand/manufacturer...We have had microwaves in the past, they didn't break for years, we just give them away when we needed something new.
This microwave is not worth the price it's being sold.. it's a comedy.
Thanks.

I bought this oven just over 2 years ago and just after a year the press-button for opening the door broke into half. I was told there is no replacement for it, but the oven was working ok with the portion of the button left on it. Till now- now it's not heating the food although everything else appears fine in terms of settings, buttons, signal, power, turntable etc. However long I keep the food in at full power it's just gets lukewarm at best. I'm told this model has no mfr warranty after 1 year and even spares are not available any more. Model KCMS1655BSS0, Serial # XV 54700113. Installed June 2016. My previous microwave was also a Kitchenaid but is still working after 10 years. Unfortunately it's white and doesn't go with our updated kitchen. Kitchenaid quality seems to have really dropped!

I bought a full suite of kitchen aid products (double oven, dishwasher, fridge and this microwave) for a complete kitchen renovation in 2013. Bought it as part of a large kitchen remodel. Had it 14 months and it stopped working. Timer still counts down but microwave doesn't work. Called Kitchenaid, they stiffed me saying it was out of warranty by 2 months. Their solution - go to the outlet web site for a good deal on a replacement. Disappointing that someone as "reputable" as KitchenAid accepts the fact that their product doesn't last more than 15 months and isn't willing to stand behind it. Never make that mistake again.

Bought this unit several years ago and it started arching this weekend. We have bought several Kitchen Aide products and have not had luck with them. Shortly after this purchase had problems with the door opening. I have kept the unit clean. We have had to replace the dishwasher and stove at separate times. Wishing I had changed brands but wanted appliances to match. I am very disappointed in the kitchen aide brand overall.

I bought this on March 23rd of 2016 with the trim kit for over $400. The door button sometimes does not open the door, however, mechanically, overall it has worked fine, until this week. It will literally not heat up anything.

Broke after 2 years...

I paid over $500 for this microwave and it broke after two years. Manufactured January 2016. Microwave severely overheated to dangerous levels and stopped working. Had repairman over and he said replacement parts not available. Severely disappointed. Bought all kitchenaid appliances for my kitchen and now I'm worried about quality of the other appliances too. Looks great but that doesn't matter if it doesn't work. I would not recommend.
